Blessings

We’ve had a hard couple of weeks here. Really hard. It has shaken us to the very core. We’re trying to handle our own grieving and to support each other. My adult kids have been amazing. Really amazing. All of them.

Blessings

I’ve also had an awful lot of support from friends. 8 minutes to talk, sending song suggestions, offering coffee and wine, and prayers. So many, many prayers.

Blessings

All of that has given me a safe place to put this grief so that I have more space for helping the children with their grief, and clear space for solid, practical thinking. There is a major shift happening in life circumstances and I need focus for that.

Blessings

A beautiful outlet for our collective grief energy as been to do some projects for ourselves.

Blessings

My oldest son Jack came by to help put in the last piece of hardware to hang the swings that I started 2 years ago. And then he had a look at the shower project. We had bought the supplies for it years ago and started building it. But it was never finished. And it got damaged in the meantime. So we’re fixing that and carrying on. We’ve never had a shower here. What a treat it will be!

Blessings

And then I bought some paint to paint the doors with. Purple. I mean, it’s a lavender farm. We should have purple doors. When I finished painting, the door was beautiful but… I don’t know… FLAT. So my oldest daughter, Cate and I opened Pinterest and started looking for purple doors. And we both landed on a gorgeous one with black trim and an ombre look. That can be easily achieved with black wax.

Blessings

So I went out the next morning to gather some wood and herbs to make lamp black. When that’s done, it will be prayed over by the full moon and used to make the wax for the doors. Each component of the fire fuel has a specific magical property.

Blessings

Meadowsweet – (Symbol of Brigid) for peace, love, and happiness
Rose – for wisdom and love
Honeysuckle – for love, good fortune, steadfastness, spiritual vision, and protection

And this morning, I went out again to bring in vines for wreath-making. I gathered many of the same materials, plus buckthorn for warding against evil, and grape for growth and new beginnings. Eventually, the leaves will fall off and I’ll be left with beautiful vine bases which can be added to with fresh flowers, evergreens, stones, bird’s nests, etc.
